How to create an account

To create an Online Services account through the personal debt portal, follow these steps:

Step 1: Answer a few questions to make sure you understand the effects of bankruptcy or a TDP.

Step 2: Select an Online Services account type and complete the verification process.

  • Digital ID account – Verify your identity once and reuse it across multiple government services.
  • AFSA account – Manually verify your identity for use on AFSA's Online Services only.

Step 3: Log in to your account.

Create a Digital ID account

Digital ID is a simple, safe and fast way to access government services, and can be used again and again. Using Digital ID is like a 100-point identity check undertaken in a post office or bank branch and allows people to prove who they are online.

If you don't already have Digital ID set up, follow these steps:

Step 1: Select 'Create your Digital ID'.

Step 2: Choose an Identity Provider. This will take you to another website, but don't worry, we'll bring you back.

Step 3: Enter details from your identity documents to prove who you are. Depending on which identity provider you choose and what device you are using, this process may require you to download an app.

Step 4: Verify your identity by signing in with the code provided by the Identity Provider.

Step 5: Consent to share your details with the Digital ID service and continue.

Step 6: Once you consent, you'll be redirected back to the AFSA website to log in to your account.

Create an AFSA Account

Step 1: After selecting the AFSA account option, enter your full name and email address.

Step 2: AFSA will send you an email with a link to verify your account. If you don't see this, check your email’s spam or junk folder.

Step 3: Click the link provided in the email to verify your account and access your dashboard.

Step 4: To complete the registration, you need to prove your identity.

AFSA uses the Australian Government Identity Matching Services (known as IDMatch) to help you prove you are who you say you are.

To complete your proof of identity check online, you will need 2 of the following identity documents:

  • Australian driver licence
  • Australian Passport
  • Australian Visa
  • Birth Certificate
  • Change of Name Certificate
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate (Note: Queensland marriage certificates are not currently accepted)
  • Medicare card.

Step 5: Select the first document type you are using and select next step.

Step 6: Enter the information from your document and select verify.

Step 7: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for your second document type and select verify.

Step 8: Once you have successfully verified 2 documents, you have completed your proof of identity check.

If you're unable to complete the proof of identity check online, you can:
