Family Drug Support Australia – National 24/7 telephone support service for families affected by alcohol and other drug issues.

Payments and services

Centrelink provides a payment to people eligible for income support.

Call 132 850, or the Centrelink Indigenous call centre on 1800 136 380.

If you are in financial hardship following a natural disaster, you may be eligible for crisis payments.

Support for carers

Carer Gateway – call 1800 422 737

If you become sick or injured and can't continue to care for your loved one, Carer Gateway service providers can arrange emergency respite services to take over while you recover if a suitable service is available nearby.

General and local Ask Izzy is a website that connects people in need with housing, a meal, money help, family violence support, counselling and other services across Australia.

Food, housing and accommodation

You can get help from non-government organisations.

  • The Red Cross can help you look for suitable shelter. They also give meals to people with low incomes or housing problems.
  • The Salvation Army (call 13 72 58) helps people across Australia to find housing and support service.
