Withhold, remove or correct my details on the NPII

AFSA maintains a publicly accessible register called the National Personal Insolvency Index (NPII). This records various pieces of information associated with formal insolvencies.

There are some instances where you can ask for information to not be recorded, to be removed or to be corrected. However, your name and date of birth cannot be withheld.

You may also apply to correct or remove inaccurate or misleading information on the NPII.

Eligibility to make a request

The Inspector-General will consider a request to withhold certain information from being published on the NPII in limited circumstances, such as if you:

  • have had a domestic violence order or apprehended violence order granted to protect you
  • are receiving threats from creditors
  • are in a witness protection program
  • work in a profession where revealing personal information may place your safety at risk (for example, mental health professional, teacher, corrections officer).

For your request to be considered, you must also provide full details of the circumstances in support of your application.

How to make a request

If you are applying for bankruptcy, or have recently been made bankrupt by the court (sequestration order) and are completing a statement of affairs

To request to withhold or remove your address or other information from the NPII, you must complete a Request for information on the NPII to be withheld, removed or corrected form, which must be submitted along with your other related form/s (for example, forms related to your application for bankruptcy).

Important: If you do not submit this form at the same time as your Debtor's Petition and/or Statement of Affairs forms, your information may continue to be published on the NPII.

If you would like to speak to someone about this process, you can contact us at info@afsa.gov.au or on 1300 364 785.

If you are applying for a debt agreement or personal insolvency agreement

To request to withhold your information on the NPII, you must complete a Request for information on the NPII to be withheld, removed or corrected form.

Important: You must submit the completed form at the same time as your debt agreement / personal insolvency agreement paperwork.

If you are already bankrupt, or in a personal insolvency agreement or debt agreement

To request to remove or correct your information on the NPII, download and complete the Request for information on the NPII to be withheld, removed or corrected form. You can return your form to us using this online form: Submit and send us a document.
