Digital bankruptcy application - what's changing from 1 October 2020?

We have improved the way you apply for bankruptcy and made it much simpler and straight-forward, while at the same time providing you with the information you need to understand what’s involved.

From 1 October 2020, you will be able to apply for bankruptcy using the new digital bankruptcy application process, available via the Insolvency Services portal on this website.

When using the new digital application, you will be:

  • Asked a series of questions and provided information about the consequences of bankruptcy after each answer. This helps you to better understand how bankruptcy may affect you.

  • Provided with additional guidance to help you understand the information required for each field. You may also be prompted to seek further help or advice.

  • Able to save and continue your application at any time. Once submitted you can track the status of your application through your online account.

A person made bankrupt by a creditor will also be able to lodge a Bankruptcy Form (Statement of Affairs) online.
