There is a fee to lodge an application to become registered.
To apply, complete our online Registration as a trustee form. You will need to supply the supporting documents that are listed on the form with your application.
Controlling trustee
Only a registered trustee, an eligible solicitor or the Official Trustee in bankruptcy can be appointed as a controlling trustee.

Section 49 of the Bankruptcy Regulations 2021 prescribes the circumstances in which a person other than a trustee (e.g. a solicitor) is ineligible to act as a controlling trustee.
