EL1 Senior Business Analyst
About the role
The Senior Business Analyst plays a strategic role in shaping and delivering projects and programs that support AFSA’s organisational objectives. Operating with a high level of autonomy, they lead discovery activities, define business needs, and translate complex problems into clear, actionable requirements. They work across multidisciplinary teams to identify improvement opportunities, assess solution options, and ensure alignment with user needs and business goals. With a focus on user experience, service quality, and ethical, evidence-based decision-making, the Senior Business Analyst influences change and contributes to the delivery of meaningful, high-impact outcomes.
Accountabilities
- Leading business analysis activities for high-priority projects and strategic initiatives across AFSA.
- Undertaking discovery activities to understand business needs, define user and system requirements, and inform service or system improvements.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to gather, validate and document requirements, facilitate alignment, and manage expectations throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Analysing current (‘as-is’) business processes and developing improved (‘to-be’) processes and service models to support user-centred outcomes.
- Identifying and articulating business challenges, risks, benefits, and impacts associated with proposed changes or solutions.
- Contributing to agile, multi-disciplinary teams to support the iterative design and implementation of fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Translating complex or technical concepts into clear, accessible language appropriate to a range of audiences.
- Supporting continuous improvement of AFSA’s delivery methods and service design capability through knowledge sharing and active contribution.
- Providing guidance, mentoring and technical leadership to uplift business analysis capability within the team and across the agency.
- Demonstrating sound judgement, ethical practice, and a focus on outcomes in all aspects of the role.
Qualifications, accreditations and experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Business Analyst, with demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality business outcomes.
- Certification from the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) or a similar professional body is highly regarded.
- Experience supporting digital transformation projects and service or system redesign is desirable.
- Understanding of modern technology concepts and digital service environments.
