About the position

The Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) is a function within Strategy & Government. Its mission is to ensure that every project aligns with AFSA’s strategic pillars, delivers value, and stays on track. 

The EPMO oversee a diverse range of projects, ensuring that each one contributes to the agency’s strategic objectives. Effective portfolio management is more than just tracking progress; it’s about aligning initiatives with the organisation’s vision and goals. We help transition ideas into actionable plans and provide insights that drive informed decision-making. Our key services include: 

  • Project and Portfolio Management 
  • Performance management (of the portfolio) and reporting 
  • Governance and oversight 
  • Change management 
  • Capability uplift and connection of practitioners 

As the Portfolio Support Officer, you will lead and coordinate a broad range of foundational activities for the EPMO that enable AFSA to optimise the value of its investments and enhance enterprise delivery capability. This includes supporting performance management across projects and programs, development and maintenance of project management resources, communications, governance and administrative activities. 

Key accountabilities

  • Lead communications and stakeholder engagement across the portfolio – coordinate and deliver communications that keep stakeholders informed and engaged about the EPMO’s role, services and project management practices. This ensures stakeholders are well supported and understand project/program management expectations.
  • Develop and maintain the Enterprise Project Toolkit – develop and enhance standardised tools, templates and guidance to support consistent project and program delivery.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the Portfolio Register – quality review project/program status reports to ensure information in the register is up to-date and coordinate updates with delivery teams.
  • Design and facilitate post-implementation reviews – under direction, plan and facilitate structured reviewed and workshops to capture lessons learned, assess outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide governance support, including drafting of briefs and documentation – prepare high-quality briefs and reports to inform decision-making and support executive oversight of AFSA’s portfolio. This ensures governance bodies receive clear, timely and relevant information to guide strategic portfolio management.
  • Support performance management across projects and programs – contribute to activities designed to monitor the health and progress of projects/programs to improve portfolio outcomes.
  • Design and support the delivery of learning experiences – work with stakeholders across AFSA to build delivery capability through the design and implementation of targeted learning opportunities.  
  • Provide general administration and coordination across the EPMO – activities may include scheduling, tracking and file management. These underpin the smooth operation of the EPMO.

Qualifications and experience

The following will be highly regarded: 

  • A tertiary qualification 
  • Demonstrated experience working for the Australian Government (Federal) and support services 
  • Strong and confident communication skills (written and verbal).
