A Western Australian man appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court last week, facing 7 charges under the Bankruptcy Act 1966 following an investigation by the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA).
Mr Christopher Michael Brown has been charged with 5 counts of incurring debt or liability by fraud, one count of making a false declaration on a Statement of Affairs, and one count of presenting a false affidavit in connection with the Bankruptcy Act. The most serious charges carry a maximum penalty of 5 years’ imprisonment.
The matter is being prosecuted by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions on behalf of AFSA. No further comment will be made until the matter is finalised.
