Bankruptcies fall 54.6% in the September quarter 2020

In the September quarter 2020, bankruptcies were at their lowest level since current records began in the September quarter 1986, according to the latest personal insolvency statistics released by the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA).

There were 1,676 bankruptcies in the September quarter 2020, a 54.6% fall compared to the September quarter 2019. Bankruptcies have been falling since the September quarter 2019, and are now at their lowest level since current records began in the September quarter 1986. There were falls in all states and territories.

Total personal insolvencies fell 50.9% in the September quarter 2020 compared to the September quarter 2019. They fell in all states and territories.

In the September quarter 2020, 26.3% of bankrupts entered a business related personal insolvency.
