Personal Property Security Register usage up as businesses look to protect themselves from financial risk

Statistics for the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) September quarter 2023 released today by the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) show an increase in both searches and registrations.

PPSR searches

There were 3,227,059 searches conducted on the PPSR in the September quarter 2023. This was an increase of 14.3% compared to the September quarter 2022, when there were 2,822,535 searches on the PPSR.

Motor vehicle searches by serial number were the most common type in the September quarter 2023. They accounted for 51.5% of searches.

PPSR registrations

There were 552,693 registrations created on the PPSR in the September quarter 2023. This number rose by 11.0% compared to the September quarter 2022, when there were 497,905 registrations created.

In the September quarter 2023, there were 295,092 amendments to registrations on the PPSR. There were 410,855 registrations discharged or removed from the PPSR.

At 30 September 2023, there were 10,305,024 current registrations on the PPSR. Motor vehicle was the most common collateral class with 4,805,798 registrations. This was 46.6% of total current registrations.

Commercial property was the most common type of collateral. At 30 September 2023, 8,172,229 current registrations on the PPSR were of this collateral type. This was 79.3% of total current registrations.
