Greater Perth

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in Greater Perth fell 6.8% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributor to the fall was Wanneroo.

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate percentage changes, the largest quarterly movements in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016 were:

  • Canning had the biggest rise in new debtors
  • South Perth had the biggest fall.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Wanneroo (85 debtors)
  • Swan (58 debtors)
  • Rockingham (58 debtors).

These regions had higher proportions of debtors in the adult population than the Greater Perth average in the December quarter 2016.

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in Greater Perth in the December quarter 2016 was Serpentine - Jarrahdale.

Rest of WA

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in rest of WA fell 12.2% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributor to the fall was Goldfields.

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate percentage changes, the largest quarterly movements in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016 were:

  • Wheat Belt - North had the biggest rise in new debtors
  • Goldfields had the biggest fall.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Bunbury (38 debtors)
  • Pilbara (29 debtors)
  • Wheat Belt - North (26 debtors).

These regions had higher proportions of debtors in the adult population than the rest of WA average in the December quarter 2016.

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in rest of WA in the December quarter 2016 was Kimberley.

Business related personal insolvencies

Greater Perth

The number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in Greater Perth rose 11.5% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributors to the increase in Greater Perth were Stirling and Belmont - Victoria Park.

The regions with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Wanneroo (21 debtors)
  • Mandurah (14 debtors)
  • Stirling (13 debtors).

Rest of WA

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate changes, the number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in rest of WA fell by 15.4% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributors were Bunbury and Pilbara.

The regions with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Augusta - Margaret River - Busselton (8 debtors)
  • Mid West (8 debtors)
  • Wheat Belt - North (7 debtors).
