Personal insolvency activity

Greater Perth

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in Greater Perth rose 11.6% in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016. The main contributor to the increase was Cockburn (with an increase of 31 debtors from the previous quarter).

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate percentage changes, the largest quarterly movements in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Cockburn had the biggest rise in new debtors
  • Cottesloe - Claremont had the biggest fall.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the March quarter 2017 were:

  • Rockingham (88 debtors)
  • Wanneroo (86 debtors)
  • Swan (68 debtors).

These regions had higher proportions of debtors in the adult population than the Greater Perth average in the March quarter 2017.

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in Greater Perth in the March quarter 2017 was Rockingham.

Rest of WA

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in rest of WA rose 5.3% in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016. The main contributor to the increase was Albany (with an increase of 8 debtors from the previous quarter).

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate percentage changes, the largest quarterly movements in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Goldfields had the biggest rise in new debtors
  • Wheat Belt - North had the biggest fall.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the March quarter 2017 were:

  • Bunbury (44 debtors)
  • Pilbara (26 debtors)
  • Albany (21 debtors)
  • Mid West (21 debtors).

With the exception of Albany, these regions had higher proportions of debtors in the adult population than the rest of WA average in the March quarter 2017.

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in rest of WA in the March quarter 2017 was Gascoyne.

Business related personal insolvencies

Greater Perth

The number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in Greater Perth remained stable at 155 in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016.

The regions with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the March quarter 2017 were:

  • Wanneroo (18 debtors)
  • Gosnells (15 debtors)
  • Swan (14 debtors).

Rest of WA

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate changes, the number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in rest of WA rose by 9.1% in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016.

The regions with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the March quarter 2017 were:

  • Bunbury (10 debtors)
  • Augusta - Margaret River - Busselton (10 debtors)
  • Kimberley (six debtors)
  • Albany (six debtors).
