Personal insolvency activity

Greater Brisbane

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in Greater Brisbane fell 7.5% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributor to the fall was Springfield - Redbank.

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate percentage changes, the largest quarterly movements (in percentage terms) in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016 were:

  • Brisbane Inner - North had the biggest rise in new debtors
  •  Brisbane Inner - East had the biggest fall.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • North Lakes (59 debtors)
  • Springfield - Redbank (52 debtors)
  • Caboolture (50 debtors).

These regions had higher proportions of debtors in the adult population than the Greater Brisbane average in the December quarter 2016.

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in Greater Brisbane in the December quarter 2016 was North Lakes.

Rest of QLD

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in rest of Qld fell 8.8% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributor to the fall was Townsville.

Noting that small numbers can exaggerate percentage changes, the largest quarterly movements (in percentage terms) in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016 were:

  • Whitsunday had the biggest rise in new debtors
  • Nambour - Pomona had the biggest fall.

For the second consecutive quarter, the regions with the highest number of new debtors in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Townsville (99 debtors)
  • Ormeau - Oxenford (91 debtors)
  • Mackay (87 debtors).

These regions had higher proportions of debtors in the adult population than the rest of Qld average in the December quarter 2016.

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in rest of Qld in the December quarter 2016 was Whitsunday.

Business related personal insolvencies

Greater Brisbane

The number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in Greater Brisbane fell 15.5% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributor to the fall was Narangba - Burpengary.

The regions with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Caboolture (12 debtors)
  • Cleveland - Stradbroke (9 debtors)
  • North Lakes (9 debtors).

Rest of QLD

The number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in rest of Qld fell 11.7% in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016. The main contributor to the fall was Toowoomba.

The regions with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Townsville (20 debtors)
  • Rockhampton (18 debtors)
  • Ormeau - Oxenford (16 debtors).
