Personal insolvency activity

Greater Darwin

There was a rise of 18.8% in the number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in Greater Darwin in the March quarter 2017 compared to the December quarter 2016 (from 48 debtors to 57).  

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the March quarter 2017 were:

  • Darwin Suburbs (20 debtors)
  • Palmerston (17 debtors).

Palmerston had the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in Greater Darwin in the March quarter 2017. Palmerston and Litchfield were the only regions with a higher proportion of debtors in the adult population than the Greater Darwin average.

Rest of NT

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in the rest of NT fell from 20 in the December quarter 2016 to 18 in the March quarter 2017.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the March quarter 2017 were:

  • Alice Springs (10 debtors)
  • Katherine (five debtors).

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in rest of NT in the March quarter 2017 was Katherine.

Business related personal insolvencies

There were 13 debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in in the Northern Territory in the March quarter 2017, compared to 16 debtors in the December quarter 2016.

The region with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the March quarter 2017 was Darwin Suburbs. This region had five debtors in the March quarter 2017.
