Personal insolvency activity

Greater Darwin

There was a fall of 11.1% in the number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in Greater Darwin in the December quarter 2016 compared to the September quarter 2016 (from 54 debtors to 48).

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Palmerston (20 debtors)
  • Darwin Suburbs (18 debtors).

Palmerston had the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in Greater Darwin in the December quarter 2016. It was the only region with a higher proportion of debtors in the adult population than the Greater Darwin average.

Rest of NT

The number of debtors who entered a personal insolvency in the rest of NT fell from 33 in the September quarter 2016 to 20 in the December quarter 2016.

The regions with the highest number of new debtors in the December quarter 2016 were:

  • Alice Springs (8 debtors)
  • Katherine (5 debtors).

The region with the highest proportion of debtors in the adult population in rest of NT in the December quarter 2016 was Katherine.

Business related personal insolvencies

There were 16 debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in in the Northern Territory in the December quarter 2016, compared to 12 debtors in the September quarter 2016.

The region with the highest number of debtors who entered a business related personal insolvency in the December quarter 2016 was Darwin Suburbs. This region had six debtors in the December quarter 2016.
