Number of searches on the PPSR by quarter

There were 2,361,738 searches conducted on the PPSR in the June quarter 2018. This represents a year-on-year increase of 117,142 searches (or 5.2%) compared to the June quarter 2017, when there were 2,244,596 searches on the PPSR.

The number of searches conducted on the PPSR in the June quarter 2018 rose by 8.0% compared to the March quarter 2018.

The most common type of search in the June quarter 2018 was by serial number. In the June quarter 2018, 51.7% of searches on the PPSR were by serial number. In percentage terms, the profile of searches by type remains similar to that in the March quarter 2018.

There were 544,265 registrations created on the PPSR in the June quarter 2018. This number fell by 0.2% compared to the June quarter 2017, when there were 545,583 registrations created.

The number of registrations created in the June quarter 2018 rose by 13.5% compared to the March quarter 2018.

Current PPSR registrations by collateral class at 30 June 2018

At 30 June 2018, there were 9,942,508 current registrations on the PPSR.

Motor vehicle is the most common type of collateral class of registrations on the PPSR. At 30 June 2018, there were 4,830,506 current registrations on the PPSR with a motor vehicle collateral class. This was 48.6% of total current registrations. This proportion is down in year-on-year terms from 49.2% at 30 June 2017.

Transactions on the PPSR to create, amend or discharge registrations

During the June quarter 2018 there were:

  • 544,265 registrations created
  • 290,631 registrations amended
  • 361,828 registrations discharged or removed from the PPSR.

In January 2019, the PPSR will have been operating for seven years. Most registrations have a duration of seven years or less. We have released data on the number of current registrations at 30 June 2018 that are due to expire over the next eighteen months. We have issued this data based on stakeholder feedback.
