Recovering Your Unclaimed Money

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

We are making it simpler for you to recover monies that you are entitled to from a personal insolvency administration but may not have claimed previously. Examples of unclaimed money:

· Money a creditor is entitled to who has been unable to be located by a Practitioner

· Surplus funds owed to a bankrupt who has been unable to be located by a Practitioner

From the 27th June 2019 applications for unclaimed monies under s254 of the Bankruptcy Act can be made directly to Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) replacing the current Court application process.

If you have applied, or apply to the Court for an order under s254 before the commencement date you must continue with that application process. ASFA will only accept new applications from 27th June.

An application form and further information about the new process will be published closer to the commencement date.
