Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) statistics for the March quarter 2018

PPSR searches

There were 2,186,519 searches conducted on the PPSR in the March quarter 2018. This represents a year-on-year increase of 72,277 searches (or 3.4%) compared to the March quarter 2017, when there were 2,114,242 searches on the PPSR.

The number of searches conducted on the PPSR in the March quarter 2018 rose 0.2% compared to the December quarter 2017.

PPSR registrations

There were 479,617 registrations created on the PPSR in the March quarter 2018. The number of registrations created in the March quarter 2018 fell by 4.9% compared to the March quarter 2017, when there were 504,105 registrations created.

The number of registrations created in the March quarter 2018 fell 7.9% compared to the December quarter 2017.
In the March quarter 2018, there were 191,448 amendments to registrations on the PPSR and 350,896 registrations were discharged or removed from the PPSR.

Motor vehicle is the most common type of collateral class of registrations on the PPSR. At 31 March 2018, there were 4,797,473 current registrations on the PPSR with a motor vehicle collateral class. This was 48.8% of total current registrations. This proportion is down in year-on-year terms from 49.3% at 31 March 2017.

Commercial property is the most common type of collateral. At 31 March 2018, 7,362,694 current registrations on the PPSR (or 74.9% of total current registrations) were of this collateral type.
