Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) statistics for the December quarter 2017

PPSR searches

There were 2,181,068 searches conducted on the PPSR in the December quarter 2017. This represents a year-on-year increase of 98,501 searches (or 4.7%) compared to the December quarter 2016, when there were 2,082,567 searches on the PPSR.

The number of searches conducted on the PPSR in the December quarter 2017 fell 2.6% compared to the September quarter 2017.

PPSR registrations

There were 520,521 registrations created on the PPSR in the December quarter 2017. The number of registrations created in the December quarter 2017 fell 0.9% compared to the December quarter 2016, when there were 525,337 registrations created.

The number of registrations created in the December quarter 2017 rose 1.4% compared to the September quarter 2017.

In the December quarter 2017, there were 468,845 amendments to registrations on the PPSR and 353,939 registrations were discharged or removed from the PPSR.

Motor vehicle is the most common type of collateral class of registrations on the PPSR. At 31 December 2017, there were 4,755,284 current registrations on the PPSR with a motor vehicle collateral class. This was 48.9% of total current registrations. This proportion is down in year-on-year terms from 49.5% at 31 December 2016, and did not change from 48.9% at 30 September 2017.

Commercial property is the most common type of collateral. At 31 December 2017, 7,283,286 current registrations on the PPSR (or 74.8% of total current registrations) were of this collateral type.
