Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) statistics for the September quarter 2017

PPSR searches

There were 2,239,460 searches conducted on the PPSR in the September quarter 2017. This represents a year-on-year increase of 71,024  searches (or 3.3%) compared to the September quarter 2016, when there were 2,168,436 searches on the PPSR.

The number of searches conducted on the PPSR in the September quarter 2017 fell 0.2% compared to the June quarter 2017.

PPSR registrations

There were 506,601 non-transitional registrations created on the PPSR in the September quarter 2017. The number of non-transitional registrations created in the September quarter 2017 fell 5.6% compared to the September quarter 2016, when there were 536,847 non-transitional registrations created.

The number of non-transitional registrations created in the September quarter 2017 fell 5.9% compared to the June quarter 2017.  

In the September quarter 2017, there were 357,921 amendments to registrations on the PPSR. This is a rise of 30.7% from the 273,947 registrations amended in the June quarter 2017. In the September quarter 2017, 381,410 registrations were discharged or removed from the PPSR.

Motor vehicle is the most common type of collateral class of registrations on the PPSR. At 30 September 2017, there were 4,697,799 current registrations on the PPSR with a motor vehicle collateral class. This was 48.9% of total current registrations. This proportion is down in year-on-year terms from 49.5% at 30 September 2016, and fell slightly from 49.2% at 30 June 2017.

Commercial property is the most common type of collateral. At 30 September 2017, 7,165,417 current registrations on the PPSR (or 74.6% of total current registrations) were of this collateral type.
