Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) statistics for the December quarter 2018

PPSR activity at a glance

PPSR searches

There were 2,461,210 searches conducted on the PPSR in the December quarter 2018. This is a quarterly record. This is an increase of 12.8% compared to the December quarter 2017, when there were 2,181,068 searches on the PPSR.

Searches by serial number remained the most common type of search in the December quarter 2018. They accounted for 48.4% of searches. In the December quarter 2018, searches by both individual and organisational grantors were the highest on record for a quarter. Together, they accounted for 50.2% of total searches.

PPSR registrations

There were 538,876 registrations created on the PPSR in the December quarter 2018. This number rose by 3.5% compared to the December quarter 2017, when there were 520,521 registrations created. The number of registrations created in the December quarter 2018 rose by 3.3% compared to the September quarter 2018.

In the December quarter 2018, there were 421,517 amendments to registrations on the PPSR, and 375,285 registrations discharged or removed from the PPSR.

At 31 December 2018, there were 10,062,456 current registrations on the PPSR. Motor vehicle is the most common type of collateral class of registrations on the PPSR. At 31 December 2018, there were 4,883,715 current registrations on the PPSR with a motor vehicle collateral class. This was 48.5% of total current registrations.

Commercial property is the most common type of collateral. At 31 December 2018, 7,616,399 current registrations on the PPSR were this collateral type. This was 75.7% of total current registrations.
