Thousands of Australians have been affected by recent or current events, for example Coronavirus (COVID-19), cyclones, floods, bushfires and drought.
If you are experiencing financial hardship due to these events, we encourage you to contact the National Debt Helpline (1800 007 007). The National Debt Helpline can provide free information and support.
Recently the Australian Government has announced financial support packages to help those who have been affected. Services Australia has more information about the support available to those impacted by bushfires and COVID-19.
If you are currently working with AFSA
Please be assured that we are working hard to maintain the availability of AFSA services, including access to our call centre. If there are any disruptions to our services, we will make announcements on our LinkedIn and Twitter pages. Please follow our social media accounts to ensure you’re kept up to date.
We would also like to assure all stakeholders that AFSA will be approaching matters with extra care and empathy. Personal insolvency can be a difficult and stressful situation during normal circumstances; we appreciate that people should be focussed on supporting their family and community at this time.
AFSA is committed to working as flexibly as possible. This includes, amongst other things, an ability to defer certain activities to ensure obligations of bankruptcy do not create an additional burden.
We encourage all personal insolvency system stakeholders to act responsibly and respectfully during this difficult period. Please bear in mind that even if you are not impacted, another party may be.
We will soon be writing to all personal insolvency practitioners, informing them of issues to be kept in mind in relation to COVID-19.
