AFSA to use electoral roll to search for ORN recipient details

Thursday, August 24, 2017

To assist bankruptcy trustees when applying for an Official Receiver Notice (ORN), the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) is now able to access basic information on the electoral roll, such as the recipient's surname and given names, residential address, gender and date of birth.

The information can be accessed at no cost. The ORN team will provide this service as part of our assessment of an ORN application.

AFSA has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), which allows this information to only be used for:

  • locating and investigating bankrupts and their associates in relation to obligations under the Bankruptcy Act 1966
  • conducting criminal investigations in relation to the Bankruptcy Act 1966, or
  • investigating identity fraud.

For further information, please contact our ORN team at OR.Notices [at] afsa.gov.au.
